My Top 3 Sports Bra Picks for Equestrians

Let’s face it ladies…not all sports bras are created equal.  So many times the tags promise so much but actually delivers little.  Maximum support? High impact?  Underwire versus no underwire?  Where do we even begin?  I’m going to share with you my top 3 picks based on what I am looking for in a sports bra while riding or hitting the gym.  I am pretty full chested so it can definitely be a challenge finding the right sports bra to work and hold everything in place.  (Have you ever seen someone doing the sitting trot and can’t get past the juggle act going on in the chest area?  Yikes!)

Here is what I want:

  1. Support (and lots of it!  I don’t want much moving around when I’m riding)
  2. Comfort (it HAS to be comfortable!  You do not want to be fidgeting with it during your ride)
  3. Shape (I don’t want to look like I have nothing or a uniboob)

I don’t think I’m asking too much…and I’m not!  I have found 3 companies that provide these options and do it well!

Sturdy Girls Santa Monica Sport Bra (High Impact)

Sturdy Girls is a company I just recently discovered and am so glad that I did!  They offer a great variety of sports bras that will surely fit your needs.  I chose the Santa Monica for a few key features:  Patented Sturdy Support System (S3) uses (1) compression, (2) encapsulation, (3) suspension, that supports each breast within the M & W overlap frame, it offers maximum support, has sweat wicking material, and has a slightly higher neckline than most.  It also comes in some really fun colors and designs.

This is a pullover style which was a little different for me but I didn’t mind.  The cups were also padded and it had a wide waistband with a racerback.  It is available in sizes C-DD.  Overall, this sports bra is comfortable and does do what it says it does.  It offers a lot of support and is a great bra to ride in.  It still gives you some shape while holding you in.  It fit all 3 of my criteria.  It’s also a great one for running.  Runs true to size.  (Fun fact: the founder has a riding background!).  Sturdy Girls definitely keeps your girls sturdy!

Enell Sport Sports Bra

The Enell Sport claims to be the sports bra for those over a C-cup.  They are correct.  They do have their own sizing system so be sure to check their size chart to ensure you choose the right size for yourself.  The ENELL SPORT’s patented design eliminates bounce while providing superior support and comfort. This high impact sports bra is made from a LYCRA® Spandex blend.  This one is completely different from any other sports bra I have tried.  It has full frontal closure which I liked.  No more struggling with trying to get that last hook clipped on your back where you can’t see a thing.  It has a lot of hook and eyes but you can see what you are doing.  I also liked the fuller back of the bra.  It eliminated that unsightly back pudge some bras create and it felt more like a tank top.

This bra will definitely hold you down!  It moves with you and stays in place so you aren’t having to worry about adjusting.  There is no underwire, and I would have liked to see a little more padding in the front.  It is available in 5 color choices including pink and scuba blue if you would like something a little different from your basic white or black.  Overall, I found it to be comfortable and supportive.  Enell is keeping the larger busted ladies in mind and that’s wonderful!  We need great sports bras too!

Victoria’s Secret The Standout Sports Bra

I think at some point I have probably tried every bra Victoria’s Secret has ever offered.  This includes their line of sports bras.  I was not a fan of their early ones, but they have really begun to figure it out and they keep getting a little better.  The Standout totally fits the bill.  It is available in sizes B-DDD and is considered maximum support.  It has gel cups for shape and support and is really comfortable.  It is made of nylon performance fabric with 4-way stretch and Body-Wick keeps you cool and dry.

My favorite feature of this bra is the gel cups.  They support but also give you shape.  They are available in some super cute designs and colors.  It is a pullover with hook and eye closures.  (I’ve tried their Incredible also but prefer this style.  I didn’t care much for the deep V of the Incredible).  Working and riding in this bra is a breeze as things stay put.  It holds up against my criteria.

Definitely check out Panache Active. Larger cup/band range and it certainly keeps everything contained (and it comes in white, great for underneath show shirts.)

Just wanted to let you know that our Sturdy Girl Sports Las Vegas style bra comes in solid white and works great under show shirts.

Wish these came in smaller sizes/ you had picks for smaller sizes- I’m an A, and always have trouble finding good sports bras (But I don’t care that much about shape- I’m ok with looking like a 12 year old boy!)

It’s a shame that these companies seem to think E cups and above are not worth making sports bras for! Why don’t the cater for us full busted ladies who ride? Very disappointing!!!

I am very big busted and ride all the time. I tried enell but they squish everything together taking sweet. I need one that’s big enough but is still an underwire

I feel your pain! Check out barenecessities.com and their high/max impact sports bras. They have a good selection to choose from. I’ve been trying the Victoria’s Secret Incredible sports bra but I’m not crazy about the V in the front. Reply back what you end up trying!
