Book Review: Kick On

kickonOne of my favorite things to do is to curl up in my favorite chair with a good book (and sometimes a cup of coffee)!  I read many different genres of books but horses are at the top.  I have found in my adult years that it’s harder to find a good fiction book that involves horses, but as a young adult, they are a dime a dozen.  I consistently troll Amazon and Barnes & Noble for equestrian books and that’s where I spotted Kick On by Kelly Jennings.  Kelly also posted in my local dressage club’s group which I think was a great idea.

Kick On is a fun, easy read.  It’s 464 pages, but it won’t take you long to read it.  Good books tend to have that effect!  It starts off with Lauren relocating to a foreign country, Panama, and having to begin a new life.  She believed this included her life with horses only to find a local barn with a top dressage rider/instructor.  Lauren will take you through many ups and downs and thrilling scenes, and let’s not forget about the love interest, hunky Craig!  The book ends on a bit of cliff hanger as Lauren has teamed up with the local riders in Panama to compete in Florida for a high profile competition.  This just ensures we will read the next book ha!

Overall, I give this book 4 out of 5 blue ribbons.  I enjoyed the book, and I think many equestrians will enjoy reading it as well.  What I didn’t like about the book is that there were parts I found to be a little unrealistic and far fetched (ie how Lauren finds and gets her new competition horse).  Where this bothers me it most likely won’t affect other readers at all.  It in no way hinders the story the author is telling.  Will I read the second book?  Absolutely.  I’m looking forward to it.
